In April 2023, my daughter, Tia, and her husband, Lochy, had their wedding on the Crichton estate in Dumfries. It was a wonderful day, and the staff there did them proud.
Situated on the outskirts of Dumfries, The Crichton boasts an 85-acre parkland estate with well-maintained grounds and botanical gardens. The stunning Crichton Memorial Church is ideal for saying “I do”, followed by a reception in Easterbrook Hall. This is precisely what Tia and Lochy did, using the Duncan Rooms for their reception and party.
The venue and its staff enable couples to create their ideal wedding. Whether it’s a traditional church ceremony with garden photos and a reception in Easterbrook Hall or a unique Wine and Dine Package in the Crichton Memorial Church, the Crichton is the ideal choice. For civil ceremonies or partnerships, Easterbrook Hall provides diverse indoor and outdoor locations, making it one of Scotland's most distinctive wedding venues.
The Crichton provides outstanding service and excellent food. Guests can select from pre-set menus or collaborate with their executive head chef to create a personalised menu. Whether you want traditional canapés, a three-course meal with snacks, a BBQ, or street food, they cater to various preferences and budgets. Our daughter and son-in-law chose a three-course meal.
While offering a comprehensive wedding package, they also recognise that couples often wish to add a unique touch. If you’re looking for local suppliers, the team at Easterbrook Hall can connect you with those often hired for setting up, delivering services, or capturing weddings at The Crichton. We were thrilled with their recommendations.
The 85-acre estate features the Crichton Memorial Church, constructed from red sandstone sourced from Locharbriggs and Thornhill. Inside, it boasts a stunning oak ceiling, floors made of Irish and Sicilian marble, and impressive stained-glass windows. This nondenominational church accommodates weddings of all kinds, hosting up to 250 guests. Tia and her husband chose a humanist ceremony. Additionally, the church can transform into a breathtaking reception venue for up to 120 guests, with a licence valid until midnight.
Easterbrook Hall, a B-listed red sandstone building renowned for its Art Deco features and breathtaking views of the Nith Estuary, is the estate’s largest venue, the Main Hall, which is ideal for weddings, accommodating 160 to 340 guests. This impressive space is sure to enchant guests. The main stage can accommodate large bands, and the spacious dancefloor is perfect for ceilidh dancing.
Many couples hold their ceremony in the church and celebrate in the Easterbrook Main Hall until midnight. Others prefer the Duncan Rooms for the ceremony, with the reception in the Main Hall. Their dedicated team will help you select the best option for your wedding size and needs.
The Duncan Rooms serve as an ideal venue for intimate weddings, accommodating 30 to 168 guests. Your attendees will appreciate the classic elegance and charm of these spaces. They can enjoy the natural light streaming through the windows and the delightful outdoor terrace adorned with vibrant flowers from spring to autumn.
Many couples opt to hold their ceremony at the Crichton Church, followed by a drinks reception on the terrace and then a lavish banquet and dancing in the Duncan Rooms; this is precisely what Tia and Lochy decided. Conversely, some couples prefer to host both the ceremony and reception within the Duncan Rooms, which I’m sure is just as delightful.
Accommodation is available on-site at the Holiday Inn Dumfries, a modern 3-star hotel offering both executive and family-friendly rooms. We used it for ourselves, as well as for the wedding party and some guests.
